In retail it’s a time to think and plan the coming year (well most is done) clean, rearrange and ponder the good that will come. Right now I’m procrastinating by writing this blog and ignoring the mountain of boxes that have arrived and need to be put into the system and priced. We have a lot of new ideas for the store and new product to come, it’s fun constantly mixing it up. WOW.
This is my 23rd year, time has blown past, I can hardly believe I’ve owned the Teazer for that many years. It was 21 years ago that I made the decision to tear down the old building and rebuild, it was exciting as we could now be fully accessible. We reopened in the spring of 1995, the winter gods were shining their good graces on the builders so they finished in 6 months. I loved the look of the old Teazer building which was built around 1868, I wanted to keep to the look so we the copied the facade. I am the 4th owner of The Teazer which opened in 1956 in the building that was Mom’s Buy and Sell. In 1958 Vida Merchant moved The Teazer business down the street to 21 Edgewater St. to our current location. Many people have memories of shopping here when they were little, including me. Do you remember the old Buchan Ware or Meindl Figurines?
There is a wonderful history here in Mahone Bay, I encourage everyone to learn more. Think of spring and you’ll be in the middle of it very soon. Stop in for a visit at The Teazer, we’re always glad to see you and you can be part of the history of Nova Scotia’s longest running gift store.
